Did You Know That...
- Each year more than 1.5 million Americans sustain a brain injury that may result in lifelong disability
- Each year over 30,000 children sustain brain injuries that can affect their abilities to grow, develop normally, and do well in school
- The District of Columbia Department of Health reports that Washington, D.C. has among the highest rates of death and hospitalization for traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the nation
- The District of Columbia has the sixth leading fatality rate in the nation due to TBI
Despite these statistics, the District of Columbia (DC) has not, to date, had an organization solely dedicated to the prevention of brain injury and the improvement of the lives of those affected by brain injury, including the family members and other caregivers of those who have experienced brain injury. The Brain Injury Association of DC(BIADC) has been formed to fill that need.
Our Vision
We would like to see a world where all preventable brain injuries are prevented, all unpreventable brain injuries are minimized, and all individuals who have experienced brain injury are able to maximize their quality of life.
All Brain Injury Survivors, Family and Friends are encouraged to attend our SUPPORT GROUP. We meet the THIRD Wednesday of every month from 5:30-7:30 PM at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, 102 Irving St, NW Washington, DC. Everybody is welcome. Email ellenwramsay@verizon.net with any questions.
